The first ever E- Leaning live stream broadcast initiative was implemented by Dudley High School in 2020 during COVID – 19 school breaks. We embarked on this vigorous initiative from 11th of May till the 29th of May to reach out to our students as we realised that our students need our help and we as a school should step up to the real calling.

As a result, with the involvement of Management Board, Teachers, Methodist Church of Fiji, Dudley Ex- Scholars and PTFA, the live stream lesson broadcast for Year 12 and 13 students commenced on the 11th of May 2020.

We broadcasted an average of 10 lessons daily for Years 12 and 13 students. Each lesson was for about 30 - 40 minutes and is presented according to the schedule provided to the parents. A massive campaign was done for 2 weeks before we launched the initiative so that we reach out to all the students of the school.

We are using a platform which is easily accessible to our students. The platform is also open to all students across Fiji and we would want as many students as possible to benefit. The students were able to access daily lessons through Dudley High School Facebook page. The daily lessons were also uploaded as well so that students can view the lessons at a time convenient to them. At the conclusion of the live stream broadcast, over 100,000 viewers across Fiji were able to access the on-line learning. We received very positive feedback which has also helped us better our broadcast day by day. The lesson broadcast began at 9.00am and concluded at 6.00pm in the afternoon.

After that we prepare for the following days broadcast. It is a mammoth task but the urge to reach out to our students during these trying times kept us going on daily basis. The lessons broadcast included English, Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, Geography, History, Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Physics, Applied Technology and Computer Studies. Our lessons were prepared in a way that it supplemented the worksheet that has been issued to students. The lessons assisted the students to answer the worksheet questions provided to them.

Commitment of all

The teachers played a major role in successfully implementing this initiative. My admin team and the teachers displayed a real team effort in a time when it was really needed and I am so proud of them. They prepared daily lessons for broadcast which needed a lot of preparation and planning. We are indeed blessed to have the hard-working teachers who ensure that we deliver during these trying times. I am very optimistic that our teachers have greatly impacted our students positively through this new platform. Teachers prepared lessons from home, some from school and we ensured that all COVID -19 restrictions are adhered to at all times.

The school Management Board had been very supportive in this venture. They had ensured that the necessary infrastructure was in place so that we could roll out the live stream classes for our students. The Methodist Church of Fiji provided us with technical assistance and a team was also based with us at the school with no cost from the school.

The teachers and the technical team were provided with daily refreshments by PTFA and Dudley Ex- Scholars as an appreciation for the work done.
